Christmas Tree Recycling Information

Boy Scouts troops 18, 25, 23, 60 and 460 will be collecting Christmas trees for recycling in your community on the weekends of December 31 & January 1 and January 7 & 8.

Individual Troops will post door flyers specifying which days they will be picking up trees in your neighborhood, starting mid-December. If you do not receive a flyer or need further assistance, please call and leave a message using the phone numbers below;

Please have trees cleaned of all lights, decorations, tinsel and out of the stand. Place trees at the end of the driveway by 9:00 a.m.

A tax-deductible donation of $5.00 is greatly appreciated. Make your check payable to “Boy Scouts of America.” Place the donation in a plastic bag and securely attach it to your tree with a rubber band. Proceeds go directly to Scouts and support their programs.

At no charge Deschutes Recycling, located at Knott Landfill, will take Christmas trees Monday - Saturday, through January 31.

Deschutes Recycling Holiday Closures

Deschutes Recycling and Knott Landfill will be closed for the following dates over the holiday season.

Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24, 2011
Deschutes Recycling and Knott Landfill will reopen on Friday, November 25 at 7:00 a.m.

Christmas, Sunday, December 25 and Monday, December 26
Deschutes Recycling and Knott Landfill will reopen on Tuesday, December 27 at 7:00 a.m.

New Year's Day, Sunday January 1 and Monday January 2, 2012
Deschutes Recycling and Knott Landfill will reopen on Tuesday, January 2, 2012 at 7:00 a.m.

Please remember Deschutes Recycling and the county landfill are closed on Sunday's.

Deschutes Recycling & Knott Landfill Closed for Veterans Day

Deschutes Recycling and Knott Landfill will be closed on Friday, November 11, 2011 in observance of Veteran's Day.

The facilities will re-open on Saturday November 12, 2012 - also the last day for the half price yard debris recycling event ($2.00 / per yard).

Fall Cleanup Projects

Now is the time to get your yard cleaned up and ready for winter. You should plan to topdress your yard with BioFine compost and mulch your plants with SoilBuilder compost from Deschutes Recycling. Half Price Yard Debris Recyclilng Event

October 31 - November 12, 2011, residents can recycle their yard debris at Deschutes Recycling for half price ($2.00 per cubic yard).

Deschutes Recycling is located at Knott Landfill, 61050 SE 27th Street in Bend.

FireFree encourages residents to complete their fall cleanup and maintenance of defensible space by bringing branches, leaves, shrubs and pine needles to Deschutes Recycling during the event. "With the burn ban in place inside the Bend city limits, this is an excellent opportunity for Bend residents to recycle their debris inexpensively and legally," says Katie Lighthall, FireFree Coordinator.

Yard debris must be clean; no rocks, dirt, garbage or plastic bags.

Deschutes Recycling Donates Produce from Garden to NeighborImpact









This is the second year for the Deschutes Recycling Garden, located at Knott Landfill in Bend.

The garden was started with the goal of donating all of its' produce to local food banks in Central Oregon. Deschutes Recycling employees plant and maintain the garden throughout the spring and summer.

To date, Deschutes Recycling has donated over 815 pounds of produce to NeighborImpact. This is up from 160 pounds in 2010. NeighborImpact will distribute the fresh produce to local food banks, helping them to provide nutritious food to Central Oregonions.

"This has been a great project and our employees love being involved with the garden. NeighborImpact is a great partner and we look forward to watching this garden grow year over year," said Brad Bailey, President of Deschutes Recycling.

Free Tire Collection Event at Knott Landfill

Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 7:00am - 4:30pm, residents can bring old snow tires and balding retreads to Knott Landfill for recycling.

Knott Landfill is located at 61050 SE 27th Street in Bend.

Tires up to 24.5" inside diameter will be accepted from households only. Tires can be on or off the rim but please keep them separated.

Limit of 12 tires per household. If you have more than 12 tires, please contact the Solid Waste office at 541-317-3163.

This event is not intended for businesses or retailers.
